What you will learn in this course

  • The basic concepts and techniques of science popularization.
  • Tips and tricks to overcome obstacles to good communication.
  • Methods to profile and understand the needs of your interlocutors.
  • The communication tools and touchpoints that are useful to your project.
  • The key steps to build and implement your communication plan.

6 modules,combining collective and individual follow-up, to progress step by step

  • Theory and practical exercises to do at home at your own pace
    (1 hour/week, documents are available online in the participants’ individual files).

 

  • 12 practical live group sessions, focused on conviviality and collective intelligence
    (2h/week, online, Tuesdays from 2:00 to 4:00 pm CET).

 

  • 4 inspiring live thematic workshops with experienced speakers
    (1 hour per workshop, included in 4 of the 12 Tuesday online group sessions).

 

  • Individual coaching sessions to support you in your project
    (30mn/week, online, on Thursdays between 2 and 3 pm CET or on Fridays between 11 am and 12 pm CET depending on the person you choose).

 

  • A personal online journal to do your exercises, write down your ideas, remember the key points of the workshops and your coaching sessions.

 

  • A WhatsApp group, for informal communication, exchange of best practices, various information shared between the participants and the training facilitators. This group lasts for the duration of the training.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Name your motivation for getting into science/medical outreach.
  • Establish your mission and goals.
  • Identify the possible impacts of your efforts on society and/or individuals.

At the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Identify your target audiences.
  • Name their characteristics, needs and objectives.

  • Identify the most appropriate format for your target audience and objectives.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of your project.

  • Recognize clear and simple communication.

Marine Lhomel
Specialist in Digital Healthcare Communication Strategy - Founder of Infused Communication
Infused Communication

Marine co-designed this training. She is also one of the two main facilitators. Specialized in digital communication strategy in the health sector (bio-pharma, biotech, medtech, healthtech), Marine started her career in the biomedical sector within the health cluster of Wallonia BioWin (Belgium). She then held the position of Corporate Communication Manager at Celyad after the company’s IPO on the Nasdaq and the acquisition of a portfolio in immuno-oncology (CAR-T). For many years, Marine has worked with researchers, entrepreneurs and institutional players involved in the development of innovative technologies and therapies. She founded Infused Communication in 2020 to put communication at the service of science, health actors and patients.

Isabelle Ladouceur-Séguin
Expert in medical communication - Co-designer and co-facilitator of the training

Isabelle co-designed this training. She is also one of the two main facilitators. A linguist by training, Isabelle has been working in medical popularization since 2018. After developing her expertise at the CHUM, a Montreal hospital recognized as a leader in therapeutic education, she launched herself as a freelance writer. She then worked with companies, hospitals and foundations wishing to adapt their content to the general public. In 2021, Isabelle joined a client’s company as Product Manager. In her spare time, she continues her mission to educate people about clear and simple communication – this time as a trainer.

Charline Lenaerts
PharmD, PhD, Consultant in Public Health

Charline is a public and hospital pharmacist. She was Scientific Advisor at BMS, an American pharmaceutical company, in the cardiovascular and anti-coagulant field. She has also been a laboratory manager for quality control analysis within the drug control department of the Belgian Pharmacists Association (APB). Charline managed the organization of the anti-Covid19 vaccination campaign in Wallonia (Belgium). She is a member of the sectoral taskforce on vaccination and the steering committee on vaccination of the APB as well as a collaborator of the Agence pour une VIe de Qualité (AVIQ) and the Walloon Government.

In order to ensure the quality of our training, we select participants who have a concrete scientific/medical project for which they need to communicate in a popularized manner. As examples, here are the projects we have supported so far: use of AI in healthcare(medical decision support tool applied to multiple sclerosis); call to citizens for a collaborative science project on air quality and its impact on health; reflection on the positioning of a start-up that develops cellular immunotherapies with applications in neurology and oncology; development of a vaccination campaign within a company.

In order to ensure the quality of our training, we select participants who have a concrete scientific/medical project for which they need to communicate in a popularized manner. As examples, here are the projects we have supported so far: use of AI in healthcare(medical decision support tool applied to multiple sclerosis); call to citizens for a collaborative science project on air quality and its impact on health; reflection on the positioning of a start-up that develops cellular immunotherapies with applications in neurology and oncology; development of a vaccination campaign within a company.
